This project was completed as part of the UX/UI Design certificate at Concordia University in a 4 person team with a real client.
UNI REDESIGN
UNI is a hard drive that can store online content and use hotspot technology to make websites like wikipedia accessible offline. Mainly for educators in remote areas with limited internet and energy access, UNI offers a design approach that anyone around the world can use.
How can a file management platform be redesigned for a worldwide user base with varied digital literacy?

Name: Bob Lee
Age: 42
Occupation: Teacher
Location: Rural China
Bob Lee is a teacher in a rural area in China. He uses UNI to bypass certain legal and economical restrictions. By being supported by UNI, with its easy to use platform, Bob Lee can access pre-loaded content, organize his own material and present or distribute the content to his students on any device.
1
Clear Hieararchy: The current application lacks a clear hierarchy in its design. The buttons on the highest priority in the main page are not well organized. And there is a lot of space that is not used. To increase the clarity and organization of the interface, UNI needs to redesign its home page .
Consistency: The hosted pages downloaded unto UNI cannot be redesigned since they`re are hosted from the internet. Although having a consistent design would help users understand the application. For UNI to be simple to use, it would have to have all the possible pages use a consistent layout.
Predictability: The padding on the list, the search bar, and the double hamburger menu do not follow best practice rules and general standards of design. For UNI Box to be used by a wide public, it should try and keep the interface predictable and clear.

Access Level: There is no indication of the current users access level, making it unclear who is using it, and what permissions do they have to cuztomise the app to their liking
Navigation Bar: UNI should have a navigation bar pinged at the bottom. This is to help with navigation throughout the most important pages and to help users find their files quickly.
Large boxes for each web source with logo, description, and clear title
Top Navigation bar allowing users to side-scroll through different pages of the app like the library or personal bookmarks.
Header includes personal profile information, settings and the search bar. This follows industry standards and predictability of feature location

Competitive Analysis
Giving control back to Bob Lee
Users unfamiliar with technology find it frustrating when they are unable to use a new application. Here are a few features to reduce stress and allow teachers to optimize their content for the students
Suggested Solution
Problem Definition
Accessing content either from a usb key or from uploaded content needs to be simple and quick for teachers. To curate content for their students, teachers need access level settings and user management settings as well.

Access and Logs
First Time user experience: This features provides a guided experience to first time users to set-up their UNI Box. This includes using empty spaces to guide users through the main function of the page like uploading documents, ressources or connecing a usb-key.
Suggested Solution
Ticket Submission : The redesign of UNI also includes a ticket submission list where users can access popular FAQ’s and submit their own.
Fixed Hierarchy: This new design of UNI contains clear hierarchy. The header contains the profile with the access level, the settings and the search bar. The top of the homepage is reserved for usb keys as it is the main user case. The bottom of the home page contains extra navigation options that are customizable. This also includes the nav bar at the bottom.
Suggested Solution
User Management: Teachers needs to know what there students are viewing. Furthermore, the teacher can create groups with different files viewable per group. This goes in hand with the main user cases of usb keys. Since a teacher plugging into the device can pick which content is viewable per group.
